Product Description

Health Benefits:

Tulsi, or "the incomparable one," is one of the more versatile of potent medicinal herbs. Used as an herbal tea it is an adaptogen, a master balancer of physical systems. In Ayurvedic terms, holy basil is considered a sattvic herb which maintains the harmony of the chakras (energy centers) of the body and thereby produces virtue and joy in humans.

As an herbal tea, tulsi has a wide range of medicinal uses including treatment for bronchitis, coughs and fever. A nerve tonic, it shares qualities with ginseng and is used across India to treat depression, fatigue, insomnia, migraine and nervous tension.

Holy basil tea improves resistance to stress and helps to regulate blood pressure. Employed on a regular basis as a tincture or tea, Tulsi has a protective effect against environmental toxins. It benefits circulation and metabolism and is considered a blood purifier.

Tulsi tea is useful for conditions of digestive upset including nausea, indigestion, gastritis, laxative indigestion, and diffuse abdominal pain.

Conditions of the ear, nose or throat, such as earache, allergic rhinitis, and conjunctivitis benefit from use of holy basil tea.

Applied in very dilute amounts to the skin, tulsi effectively treats inflammation and chronic non-healing ulcers. It improves complexion and is also a powerful mosquito repellant.

How to Use:

How To Use Holy Basil Oil:

Tulsi essential oil is dermo-caustic and should only be applied topically in extreme dilution (.5% or less). Can also be used as a compress (diluted), through direct inhalation, or diffuser.

As a warming tonic for digestive issues, apply diluted tulsi oil (3 drops in 1 oz. sesame oil) as a compress over abdominal area and to soles of feet.

For respiratory conditions, use 3 drops diluted in 1 oz. carrier oil in direct palm inhalation.

Diffuse holy basil essential oil to purify the air. It can also be diffused for respiratory, nervous system, and digestive relief.

Tulsi taken as a dried herb in aromatic tea can keep respiratory infections at bay.

More Information:

Next to the lotus, tulsi is the most sacred plant in India. Regarded as a goddess and a consort of Lord Vishnu, she is ceremonially wed to Lord Vishnu every year, marking the beginning of the marriage season.

Tulsi devotional rituals are based on classical Tantric ceremony. The plant is placed in a special altar, invoked and adored as the embodiment of Vishnu or the Divine Mother, given ritual watering, and offerings of incense and food. The worshipper prostrates him or herself to the invoked deity, dresses the tulsi in silk offering scarves, and decorates it with flowers. At the end of the ceremony, the leaves are taken as a sacrament.
